Bio : Fantacee Wiz is a Sierra Leonean multiple award winning traditional folk singer born in Kabala Koinadugu District. Raised in Freetown where she finished high school went to college and studied ICT(IT), Fantacee Wiz is one of the only traditional folk singers among the new school of recording artists in Sierra Leone. She’s an actor, dancer, designer, Poet, Radio presenter, Children’s Ambassador, Philanthropist, Activist and a part-time model. She’s also the first singer to perform for inmates at both the Pademba Road and Special Court female prisons in Freetown. Fantacee started earlier on as a member of the Voice of Children on UN Radio and also as a producer and presenter of the programme “Problem Page”. This led to her becoming a full-time performing artist with the Freetong Players International for couple of years, and a UNDP peace Ambassador for both the 2007 Presidential and Parliamentary elections and the 2008 local government election. In 2011 Fantacee Wiz started her very own Performing Arts group called the Sierra Unity Playas (http://www.facebook.com/SierraUnityPlayas ) while in college studying ICT at SiliconPro. As well as performing for various companies and NGO’s, the next few years saw them perform at events such as Afro Beat 2011; and did a nationwide school tour with the theme “Stay in School” and “Shed No Blood for Power” since 2011 to present to mention a few; Methodist Girls High Sch, Annie Walsh Memorial sch, Virtues Int Academy, Mereweather Prep Sch, Services Sec Sch, Malamah Comprehensive Academy etc. Fantacee Wiz uses her music to talk about issues affecting women and girls (early marriage, teenage pregnancy, rape, girl education, fistula etc), social commentary, self-esteem, empowerment and Pan-Africanism. Along with her music career she has a couple of noted campaigns which she is devoted to – “Say No To Rape” and “stop Violence Against Women”. Her love for women, children and charity work through her foundation ‘’Badenya Foundation’’ is also well known. Fantacee Wiz created her own genre of music because she’s passionate about her culture and tradition and wants to preserve what is left of our unique folklore and tradition through music. She blends cultural music with modern day contemporary music in a way that both the young and old can relate to.
